- Frequently Asked Questions about Physical Therapy -

What will my care be like?

For Physical Therapy appointments, you will have a 60 minute initial evaluation and treatment performed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy.  Your follow up appointments will also be 60 minutes of one on one care consisting of individualized evidence-based practices and education.

Though the primary modality utilized in your treatment sessions is very specific manual therapy, we also may utilize dry needling, exercise prescription, patient education, home programs, and lifestyle modifications per therapist discretion.  If you are attending ReForm Physical Therapy for pelvic rehabilitation, an assessment of your pelvic muscles internally (through the rectum or vaginal canal) may be valuable, and you will have the option to choose or refuse ANY part of the examination or treatment with which you don't feel comfortable.

What will my first visit be like?

We start your Physical Therapy initial evaluation by listening to you: we want to know about symptoms, medical history, and any other pertinent information that might help you get better. You'll be asked about your specific goals and your most troubling symptoms, so we can focus on the parts of treatment that will give you the most relief.

After the subjective portion of the evaluation, a thorough physical examination of your functional mobility, strength, and flexibility will occur.

If you are attending ReForm Physical Therapy for pelvic rehabilitation and depending on your symptoms and comfort level, we will then perform an external and/or internal pelvic floor examination. This exam is completely different from a previous internal exam you may have had performed by either a urologist or gynecologist. Exams are as pain free as possible, as we do not believe we need to increase your pain to decrease your pain. An individualized treatment plan will be created following your initial evaluation to help you meet your goals.

Will it hurt?

At ReForm Physical Therapy we believe strongly that nothing we are doing should cause pain or discomfort. Patients are frequently surprised that the individualized exercises and manual techniques are able to bring about so much change in the body. Our goal is to minimize all discomfort as we work with you.

If you are attending ReForm Physical Therapy for pelvic rehabilitation, even if you have had painful pelvic PT or exams in the past, it is our belief that we can not resolve pain by inflicting more pain.  The clinic is a very comforting environment, the treatments are relaxing and pain free, and you are always in control of your treatment.

Should I reschedule my pelvic rehabilitation session if I have my period?

It is not necessary to reschedule if you are on your cycle, and we encourage you to keep your scheduled appointment.

How many visits will it take to get better?

It's difficult to give a specific answer to this question - it depends on how long you've had the condition, your medical management, how your body responds to physical therapy, how much time you're able to invest in exercises at home, and other factors.  You should see a significant difference in your pain and function by the 3rd visit.  Some patients are better in 2 visits, some take longer.  It just depends on the individual, the pattern of dysfunction, how many compensations have occurred over time, and the patient’s whole picture of health and self care.

At ReForm Physical Therapy, we push for independence and self-care. We want you to fully understand your personal healing process, and what you can do to maintain that progress on your own! With hands on, one on one, hour long, personalized appointments with direct care provided solely by a Doctor of Physical Therapy, we expect you to get better quicker!

Do I need a referral from my physician?

Louisiana is a direct access state; therefore, no physician’s referral is required. However, we do prefer to collaborate using a team approach with your physician.

What is your cancellation policy?

This varies from initial and follow up visits.

For evaluation visits

  • For Evaluations, we will require a missed visit fee for cancels less than 24 hours, which is half the cost of an evaluation visit, in order to reschedule.

For ongoing patients:

  • After the first no show or less than 24 hour cancel, we give you a friendly reminder of our policy.

  • Once the patient has had a second no show or third <24 hour cancel, you will be required to pay for the missed visit in order to continue care as well as pre-pay for all visits.

  • For long term/wellness care patients, the grace no show/cancels reset every 6 months.

  • If you are sick, please cancel. We will not hold the first couple against you. If a patient has to cancel frequently due to illness, this may not be the best time to pursue treatment, until health improves enough to attend appointments.

  • If there is severe weather and schools are cancelled or delayed, we may also be. Please check your phone and email before driving in on severe weather days. Please do not put yourself in harm’s way in get here, etc.

Do you take insurance?

In order to provide the best care for our patients - one hour treatment sessions with hands-on physical therapy - we are out-of-network providers for insurance plans. Therefore, we do not have to limit the time or quality of treatment we provide because of insurance company restrictions or elevate our rates to pay for billing services. The value for you: You have longer evaluation and treatment sessions with decreased number of visits needed for the best outcome (versus going 2-3 x a week for many months at a traditional setting). We will provide you with a superbill upon request, so you can be reimbursed directly by your insurance company. If you need us to fill out insurance forms for you, they are $35 each.  You will still need to bring the forms in and self submit them once completed.  Our patients are generally patients who have seen many providers and have not responded to conventional therapies.  We offer longer sessions, one-on one treatments that are not available at most clinics, and treat in the way that is best for the patients.

When calling your insurance regarding reimbursement, ask about out of network coverage for physical therapy, if they cover physical therapy for your specific diagnosis, and if they will cover chronic conditions.   Even if your insurance does not cover out of network care, you can apply the cost to your annual deductible.

Medicare Patients:

We do not have a relationship with Medicare at this time, which means we can not treat patients who wish to submit to Medicare or for conditions normally covered by Medicare.

What will it cost?
